Issy’s Story:

“Where do I go from here?”

My journey began with the decision to attend Chichester College and pursue Level 3 Creative Media. Just emerging from the challenges of COVID-19, I was uncertain about my college path and future pursuits. However, my passion for media, an area in which I was already working, led me to choose this course. Throughout my time at college, I explored various media sectors, including pre/post-production, journalism, campaigns, and more. I thoroughly enjoyed my course, and my hard work paid off with distinctions each year.

Throughout my college experience, there was a constant emphasis on making university decisions, with questions like which university I planned to attend and what I intended to study. However, I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about pursuing university. I was eager to start working and expanding my knowledge, though I was unsure about how to navigate the transition, as the option of going straight into work from college wasn't commonly discussed.

During the course, I had the opportunity to engage in numerous work experiences. This is when I encountered Collaborate. Ollie came in and delivered a talk about Collaborate, describing who they were and what they did. This piqued my interest, especially because of their work with automotive brands, a subject I am passionate about. The cool projects Ollie shared during the presentation and his passionate description of the company excited me.

After the talk, I approached Ollie to learn more about the company, not realising where it would lead. A few weeks later, I was given the chance to work with them at the Festival of Speed, where I worked on filming and editing. Following this experience, they offered me a job in marketing. I worked two days a week at Collaborate while continuing my studies at college. I feel fortunate for this opportunity, as if you had asked me back then, I probably would have envisioned myself working in a café in Chichester. I am pleased with how this job has not only grown my skills but also shaped my personality.

When I began working at Collaborate, I started in marketing as a marketing junior, aligning well with my college course and my passion for media. Later on, I transitioned into production as the production executive, another area I found immensely enjoyable. This role allowed me to witness how activations are run, overseeing resources and freelancers. Throughout my time at Collaborate, I have spent time on-site doing various tasks, from filming to managing a merchandise shop.

What I love about Collaborate is its dynamic nature—some days are random, while others are highly structured, especially during events like the Festival of Speed or Revival. Nearly a year and a half into my role, I find myself loving it more each day. This experience has not only enhanced my technical skills but has also significantly boosted my confidence in dealing with people and handling diverse tasks. Looking back, I am grateful for this unexpected journey that has brought me to where I am today.
